Merry People boots are built for durability and style, perfect for all your adventures. However, even the best boots need a bit of love to stay in great condition. With our easy care tips, you can ensure your gumboots last for years, keeping you happily splashing through puddles and exploring the great outdoors.

How to Clean Your Rubber Boots

Cleaning the Outside of Gumboots

After every use, remove any wet debris or mud from the outside of your boots. Even if they look clean, a quick wipe-down can prevent grime and dust buildup. For dried marks, use a medium bristle brush to dislodge grime, switching to a smaller brush for the treads.

For heavier mud, mix a teaspoon of dish detergent with two cups of warm water. Dip a soft cloth in the solution, clean the boots from top to bottom, and rinse with water. Finish with a final wipe-down using a cloth dipped in warm water. For extra shine, use the rubber boot treatment from the Merry Care Kit.

Cleaning the Inside of Gumboots

Cleaning the inside is just as important as the outside. Mix a teaspoon of heavy-duty laundry detergent with two cups of warm water. Soak a cloth in the mixture, wipe the interior, and rinse with plain warm water.

If your boots were in contaminated waters, disinfect with a pine oil solution and scrub with a soft brush. Dry the interior thoroughly, using a hand towel or a hair dryer, and stuff with newspaper to absorb any remaining moisture. For stinky boots, sprinkle baking soda inside overnight and empty before wearing.

Storing Your Gumboots

Store your Merry People boots indoors, away from direct sunlight, to prevent fading and cracking. The natural rubber material can degrade with excessive sun exposure, so save the sunlight for your adventures, not storage.

Dealing with Wet and Cracked Boots

If water gets inside your boots, stuff them with newspaper and place upside down in a warm place. Repeat until dry. To prevent cracking, store boots indoors and apply a silicone spray regularly to maintain moisture.

Removing Your Boots Properly

Use your hands or a shoehorn to remove your boots, avoiding pressure on the sole. Gently use the pull tabs to keep them in the best condition.

Ensuring Safe Use

Merry People gumboots are fashionable lifestyle boots, not designed for heavy work or safety use. Be cautious on slippery surfaces like polished concrete, ice, and wet wood. For extra grip, use a traction spray from your local hardware store. If you encounter any manufacturing issues, Merry People have asked that you contact them directly at support@merrypeople.com.

Staying Merry in Your Clean Rubber Boots

Proper cleaning and maintenance are key to keeping your Merry People boots in top shape. Always clean them inside and out after wearing. With these tips, your boots will stay merry for many adventures to come.
